A bank of hygiene, cleaning and water products.

With the name BECALA, this NGO has been created by two associations from Gran Canaria with the aim of attending to the population that receives food donations but that need necessary hygiene products such as gel, bleach or nappies. The organisation hopes that this idea will spread throughout the whole country.

Two associations, Mujeres Brillantes and Vecinos de San José have come together to launch a pioneer project that they hope will spread throughout the whole country. It involves a bank of hygiene, cleaning and water products that holds the same philosophy as a foodbank. They assure that hygiene is just as important as food. They verified this at Christmas with a campaign that collected product donations, and through which they managed to attend to a hundred families for three months.

The lack of hygiene, according to BECALA, closes doors both in professional and personal environments. They are currently seeking premises and support from businesspeople and individuals. For the meantime, they are using the premises of the Vecinos de San José Association.
