Michel Camilo brings Lecuona back to life in a cinema concert

Michael Camilo

The renowned Dominican pianist Michel Camilo brought the Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona, who died in 1963 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, back to life in a trio concert performed in the Theatre Pérez Galdós and part of the XVI International Film Festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

After taking part in the competition¿s opening gala yesterday, where the musical documentary "Playing Lecuona" was shown, in which Camilo took part, the acclaimed Dominican artist and winner of numerous Grammy and Emmy awards once again claimed the work of the Cuban composer and performer in his recital. As well as his usual repertoire of Latin jazz, he performed three pieces included in the film directed by Pavel Giroud and Juanma Villar with his New York jazz trio (Lincoln Goines on double bass and Cliff Almond on drums).
