TVE's Series, "Isabel", Receives the National Television Award 2014

TVE's series, "Isabel", was unanimously selected as the winner of the National Television Award 2014, a form of recognition granted by the Spanish Ministry for Education, Culture and Sports. This historical fiction starring Michelle Jenner and Rodolfo Sancho, which is currently screening its third and last season, was granted the award due to its "overall historical rigor, its informative nature for all sections of the audience and its contribution to disseminating values. The way in which such an important figure in our history is portrayed, was also highly valued", according to the Jury.
Directed by Jordi Frades and co-produced by TVE, Diagonal TV and Telefónica, "Isabel" has enjoyed both critical and popular acclaim throughout its three seasons. In addition to the National Television Award 2014, we might highlight other forms of recognition, such as the "Golden Antenna" for Series of the Year, granted by the Federation of Radio and Television Associations, the "Ondas" Award presented to Michelle Jenner for Best Actress, and the Spanish Television Academy Award for Best Actor, which was presented to Rodolfo Sancho.
Since the series was premièred in September 2012, it has enjoyed an average audience figure of nearly three million viewers. It is also Spanish Television's most popular fictional series abroad. Its broadcasting rights have been sold in virtually every country on the American Continent. In Europe, the series has been shown in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Ireland, Croatia, Bulgaria, France, Russia, the countries of the former Soviet Union and the Baltic countries. It has also been shown in more than 15 Arab countries.
The Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports stages the National Television Award each year, recognizing the role that television plays as a key tool for promoting culture, not to mention its link with the development and dissemination of the culture industries.
The Jury at the year 2014 edition of the award was chaired by Teresa Lizaranzu, the Head of Cultural Policy and Industries and Books. Faustino Díaz, the Assistant Head of Cultural Industry Promotion and Patronage, served as Vice-Chairman. The members of the Jury included the following: Lorena González, the Head of the Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute (ICAA); Manuel Campo, President of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences; Marta Abad, TVE Marketing Director; Ángeles de la Concha, Professor of Philology at the Distance-Learning University (UNED) and a research specialist in gender issues; and Consuelo Sánchez Naranjo, an Advisor at the Office of the Spanish Secretary of State for Culture.
"Isabel" will now join "Cuéntame cómo pasó" (2009), "23F, El día más difícil del Rey" and Narciso Ibáñez Serrador (2010), TVE's News Services (2011), Jesús Hermida (2012), and Concha García Campoy (2013), all winners of previous editions of this prestigious award, which recognizes the excellent work carried out by television professionals each year. The prize money for the award comes to 30,000 euros.
