Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest typhoon in the world this year and possibly the most powerful ever to hit land battered the central Philippines on Friday, forcing millions of people to flee to safer ground, cutting power lines and blowing apart houses. Haiyan, a category-5 super typhoon, bore down on the northern tip of Cebu Province, a popular tourist destination with the country's second-largest city, after lashing the islands of Leyte and Samar with 275 kph (170 mph) wind gusts and 5-6 meter (15-19 ft) waves. 08.11.2013FRM107. MANILA (FILIPINAS), 07/11/13.- Unos residentes filipinos caminan sobre el barro este, viernes 8 de noviembre de 2013, en una aldea costera en Las Pinas, sur de Manila (Filipinas). El Gobierno de Filipinas ordenó el 7 de noviembre una evacuación masiva de población en laderas de montaña y zonas del litoral situadas en la trayectoria del tifón "Haiyan", que llegará al archipiélago con vientos sostenidos de 215 kilómetros por hora y ráfagas de hasta 250.
