A suspended declaration

On Tuesday night the President of the regional Catalan government, Carles Puigdemont appeared to take into consideration the European Council President's advice. In an awkardly worded statement Puigdemont declared Catalonia's right to become an independent republic, on the basis of the October first referéndum results, and then immediately suspended the declaration in order to all a period of weeks of dialogue and mediated negotiations. Today's program also looks at the response of much of the mainstream Spanish and Catalan press.
