English Language Broadcast   Aranjuez Festival director Javier Estrella, I 13/06/2019 31:17

Justin Coe talks to Javier Estrella, the founder and director of the Aranjuez Early Music Festival. Established in 1994, the annual festival continues to flourish and is one of the leading festivals of its kind in Spain. Located just south of Madrid, the beautiful town of Aranjuez was one of the summer retreats for Spanish royalty, and today the music in the festival is performed in and around the royal palace and its gardens, and even--as in bygone days--on the Tagus River! During this first part of a two-part interview with Javier Estrella we hear Baroque music recorded by La Tempestad in Aranjuez as well as jazz, one of Javier's other passions, recorded in Madrid by Lionel Hampton.
