A partir de 1964 a los cantantes blancos que hacían rhythm n blues y música soul con una garganta de matices negros se los comenzó a etiquetar como blue eyed soul. Hubo antecedentes antes de que existiese la etiqueta y también es cierto que no mucho después ya se usaba la definición de “soul de ojos azules” para referirse a las voces blancas que sonaban negras independientemente del estilo musical.
