According to Maurice Ravel, the French composer owed his existence to the Spanish city of Madrid, as this was where his parents had met. He himself first visited Madrid only many years after composing his "Spanish Rhapsody." In today's program we hear the "Rhapsody," as performed by our house RTVE Orchestra, conducted by Sergiu Comissiona. We also hear the shorter piece by Ravel for solo piano, "Alborada del gracioso" ("The Jester's Aubade"), as performed by Catalan pianist María Luisa Cantos.
