The province of León in Spain is mostly rural, including the cluster of towns situated in the Órbigo river basin, and for decades now the area has suffered diminishing and aging populations and social neglect. The presence of an international festival of short films in this environment is as surprising as it is delightful, to both the visitor and the residents of the region. In this extraordinary year of the Covid 19 pandemic, the 7th edition of Luna de Cortos was no less extraodinary, with an abbreviated program and a new venue, the village of Riego de la Vega. But despite adversities of all kinds, the festival once again brought the magic of cinema to communities eager share that experience of wonder under the open sky, by the light of the moon. Festival director Bal Ferrero and former projectionist, collector and curator Miguel Pérez "Trébol" revealed something of what Luna de Cortos, a moon of shortfilms, means to them and to the towns to which they've brought it.
