Lithuanian-born jazz singer and composer Viktorija Pilatovic, now based in Valencia, talks to Justin Coe about her life, her music, and her new album, "The Only Light," which follows "Nica's Blues" (Inner Circle Music, 2013) and "Stories" (Inner Circle Music, 2017). Randy Crawford and Ella Fitzgerald are two singers Viktorija mentions as having made their mark on her artistically at an early age, and she also talks about how jazz constantly surprises her. Viktorija loves the Mediterranean climate but notes that she wouldn't be living in Valencia now if it weren't for the city's excellent musical environmnent and the high level of musicians in Spain, in general. Besides the new album's title track, we hear three other new songs written, arranged and sung by Viktorija Pilatovic: "Confusion," "Time," and "We Were Not Born Yesterday;" and, from the album "Stories," we end with a tune featuring Valencian saxophonist Perico Sambeat entitled "Conviction."
