Hank Ballard and the Midnighters fueron una de las bandas más calientes del rhythm n' blues de Detroit en los años 50 y auténticos cimentadores de lo que se conoció como rock'n'roll. Formados como The Royals en 1952, ya como Midnighters gozarían de sus primeros grandes éxitos en el 54 con varios singles de alto contenido sexual. Para volver a las listas deberían esperar hasta 1959, cuando grabaron el original de “The Twist”, pero entre medias dejaron un reguero de singles que pasaron sin pena ni gloria pero que hoy son pasto de coleccionistas ya que son fabulosos para las mejores pistas de bailes
