Queens, Santiago. The path s end, and iFamily are the main new fiction products from RTVE for this new edition of MIPTV, to be held in Cannes from 3 to 6 April. RTVE will also present its renewed range of international channels and the launch in Europe of STAR HD, a channel devoted exclusively to fiction that began operating in the Americas in early 2016.

Queens tackles the rivalry that existed between two great European monarchs: Mary Stuart of Scotland and Elizabeth I of England. Historically, these two women clashed due to their political and religious convictions, under the watchful eye of the most formidable monarch in Europe, Philip II of Spain.

After a 13-year absence, Mary Stuart, the widowed Queen of France, comes back to her native Scotland to occupy her throne. At the time, Scotland was a poor and small kingdom divided by religious strife and the constant squabbles between its different clans of nobles, the result of an intelligent strategy being pursued by Queen Elizabeth I, the head of the Anglican Church. The Papacy had declared all-out war against Elizabeth, a struggle in which Philip II of Spain would also become embroiled. The series was filmed in English, featuring spectacular outdoor locations in Spain and Scotland.

Santiago. The paths end, relates the experiences of three brothers who suffer the unfettered ambitions of various historical figures. The story traces their love affairs, betrayals, passions and blunders, all set within the period when the Cathedral of Santiago began to be built. In 1075, Spain was broken apart by the fratricidal battles of five siblings who received the Kingdoms of Castile, León, Portugal, Aragón and Galicia upon the death of King Ferdinand I. During this troubled time, the remains of St. James the Apostle turned Compostela into a leading religious and financial center that was visited by thousands of pilgrims. Thus began the tradition of the Road to Santiago. The Road established a link between the different Christian kingdoms, but, at the same time, constituted a route packed with danger.

iFamily tells the story of two feuding brothers, Kike and Luis, and Luis s four children. By pretending to be what they are not, they end up learning what it means to be a family.

Kike is a rogue without a penny to his name; he s a loser, but an optimist too. He always evades his responsibilities but now he is faced with the biggest responsibility of all. His brother Luis, a great diplomatic, seductive and a swindler, survives among fiddles and court cases without losing his composure. However, his people skills are no good to him at all when it comes to connect with his children. To cap it all, Kike will have to convince Lola, a strict social worker, that he is sufficiently responsible to look after his nephews and nieces …

Six Sisters is a terrifically well performed drama that follows the life of the Silva sisters. It is a wonderful story of courage, struggle and false pretenses in the Madrid of 1913, full of love, humor and, above all, emotions.

Acacias 38 takes us back to 1899 to tell the story of a group of housemaids and the bourgeois families they work for. A tale about the rich and poor that reflects the coming together of two worlds in one place: a building located in a bourgeois neighborhood in a large Spanish city.

RTVE will also present other new features, such as OT the Reunion and the TV movies Princess Paca, Elne s light and 22 angels, as well as the rest of its catalog, which include series such as Isabel, Carlos, King Emperor, and Victor Ros, and TV movies such as The Spanish-English lady, Closed rooms and Teresa .

RTVE has extended its range of international channels for Europe

Regarding international channels, the latest new development is that the current range for Europe (TVE Internacional and 24 Horas) is now complemented by STAR HD,  a channel devoted entirely to fiction.

This is a thematic channel that offers the very best fiction productions from RTVE. It will begin to operate in April in France, subsequently being deployed in Belgium and Switzerland. It will be based at a hub in Paris, where all contents distributors throughout Europe will be able to contract it.

RTVE’s commercial team will be led by María Jesús Pérez, Head of International Sales Department, and Rafael Bardem, Deputy Director of Program and License Sales.
