Concern over the high risk of forest fires as the summer season begins in Extremadura
This morning, the administrative council of the Plan Infoex (Forest Fires Plan) met in Mérida. After a dry spring and with temperatures five degrees above the average of previous years, there is concern in Extremadura over the degree of dryness in the region's forests. The director general of the Ministry of Environment, Pedro Muñoz, says that "the countryside is parched, and nearly one month early".
This year, the regional government is worried about the premature degree of drought in the forests and the low supply of water reserves used to put forests fires out. As for the new aspects of this year's anti Forest Fires Plan, the council highlights 6 pick-up tucks provided by the regional government, as well as an aeroplane in Talavera la Real that will be used for coordination and a surveillance drone.
