Portugal commits to the Sines-Extremadura electrified rail corridor for 2021

It is one of the commitments signed today at the end of the 29th Iberian Summit between the heads of government of Spain and Portugal. The other two rail corridors to be fully electrified from 2021 run from Oporto to Vigo, and from Aveiro to the frontier with Salamanca.

The governments of Spain and Portugal agreed on the need for the three rail corridors in order to improve exports from both countries to the rest of the continent.

The Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy concluded that "they are three very important corridors, which will reduce travel times for passengers and goods." The collaboration in this matter is "exceptional", Rajoy emphasised, and he expects it "to be very useful in the future".
