The Congressional committee investigating the origins of the financial crisis in Spain began its hearings this week with the testimony of former conservative economy minister, former managing director of the International Monetary Fund and former chief of Caja Madrid and Bankia, Rodrigo Rato. The former politician and banker blamed the Socialist administration and his own former colleague and current conservative economy minister Luis de Guindos for the crisis and collapse of Bankia, which resulted in the largest bank bailout in recent history. Spain's High Court will soon begin its trial of Rato in the Bankia case for falsification of the bank's accounts. He was already found guilty in the "tarjetas black" case.
