Alison Hughes is joined in the studio by poet, translator and professor at MIT, Stephen Tapscott, who was in Madrid to give a lecture and reading at the International Institute. Among his translations are books by two Chilean authors, Selected Prose and Prose Poems by Gabriela Mistral and One Hundred Love Sonnets by Pablo Neruda. Stephen Tapscott talks about some of the differences between English and Spanish and about Pablo Neruda's life and loves, and reads from his acclaimed translation of the Sonnets. In addition to his translations and critical work on Walt Whitman and William Carlos Williams, Stephen Tapscott is the author of five books of poetry and at our request reads one of his own poems (15/02/13).
