After Paris: the measures taken by the French government, the EU, Spain and the countries already engaged in the nearly five year civil war in Syria.  There are fears for the fate of the 700 thousand refugees who have arrived in Europe just this year after the Paris attacks.   Meanwhile journalist Patrick Cockburn has reported that the US and Russian rivalry in Syria and the Shia and Sunni battles to the finish, with powerful international backing on each side, make it unlikely the war will end anytime soon.
