In this week's edition of "North By Southwest" Nicolas Jackson visits the Hay Festival Segovia where he meets first-time British novelist Suzanne Joinson, author of A Lady Cyclist's Guide to Kashgar, a book which has already been translated into numerous languages and is published in Spain by Editorial Roca. The novel is partly set in 1920s Kashgar, a city situated on the ancient silk route in Asia, where Evangeline English, a keen lady cyclist, arrives to help establish a Christina mission along with her sister Lizzie and the forceful and unyielding Millicent. Interwoven between this story are scenes from present-day London where Frieda, a young woman adrift in her own life discovers a connection to the lady missionaries through a dead-women she has never heard of and whose abandoned flat contains many surprises - amongst them a bad-tempered owl (19/11/12).
