NBSW - Jay Bernard

In this Edition of North by South West we travel to the town of Segovia some 80 kilometres from Madrid to meet writer, artist and Performer Jay Bernard. Jay’s work explores concepts of gender, sexuality, and diversity from a multidiscplinary, critical and what they call a “queer” perspective. More on that later.

As a poet, Jay Bernard’s work has been recognised with various awards and they have performed it in such emblematic venues in the UK as Buckingham Palace, the British Library and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Their visit to Segovia was to perform their poetry in the town’s former jail.

Jay Bernard prefers the gender-neutral pronouns “they” and “them” in reference to themselves, rather than he/she, him/her.
