Hundreds of thousands of people took part in the March for Dignity in Madrid, a broad-based demonstration protesting against the Spanish government's economic and social policies. The protest demonstration was held in the Spanish capital on Saturday, March 22nd, with marchers filling the broad boulevards from the Atocha train station to the Plaza de Colón. Violent clashes between suspected radical youth in masks and riot police left over one hundred people injured, including many police. Officials blame the march and its organizers for the violence, while the demonstrators blame the authorities, who they say planted provocateurs in order to discredit the demonstrators and deflect attention from the issues underlying the protest, one of the largest in Spain in recent years (28/03/14).
