This week's edition of the program is a true medley, with reports on the visit to Spain by primatologist Jane Goodall, the exhibition of black and white photos by American photographer Robert Adams at Madrid's Reina Sofia Museum, and the coming concerts in Spain by Cuban jazz pianist Chuchito Valdés. Primatologist, United Nations Messanger of Peace, and animal rights activist Jane Goodall was in Spain to receive from Parliament the "international award for Defence of Animals", and she took advantage of the moment to speak about bullfighting precisely after the lower house had admitted a bill that would recognize and protect bullfighting as a "national cultural heritage". American photographer Robert Adams was born in 1937 in New Jersey and as a child moved with his family from Wisconsin to Colorado. He studied English Literature in California and in 1962 returned to Colorado only to find the glorious landscapes of his youth newly replete with tract housing, highways, strip malls and gas stations. While teaching at Colorado College, Robert Adams started taking photographs, and within a few years dedicated himself to capturing the images of a transformed and transforming landcape. Those photographs are now on show at Madrid's Reina Sofia Museum (http://www.museoreinasofia.es/exposiciones/actuales/adams_en.html). Though people say a picture is worth a thousand words, it is hard to match the eloquence of Robert Adam's own writing about his photographs. And, finally Chuchito Valdés, the son of Chucho Valdés and grandson of Bebo Valdés, members of a dynasty of great Cuban jazz pianists, will be performing with his band in cities in Spain throughout the month of March in the Jazz Blue festival. The 45 year old Jesús "Chuchito" Valdés enjoys popularity worldwide, and attributes part of his success to the "dancability" of his jazz.
