English Language Broadcast   Billy Budd at Madrid's Teatro Real 23/02/2017 32:58

Madrid's Teatro Real Opera house has recently premiered a co-production, with the National Opera of Paris, of Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd.  First performed at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, in 1951, Billy Budd, with a libretto based on the novela of the same name by Herman Melville, underwent significant revisión, in the following decade.  Britten preferred his 1964 versión, which British director Deborah Warner and Musical director Ivor Bolton have staged for the Teatro Real.  Today's program features an interview with Warner and extracts from Bolton and Warner's press conference in Madrid.  Britten's opera Billy Budd can be seen at the Teatro Real through the end of this month.
