English language broadcast - 19/11/14

 Today's program includes a report on the deep water drilling that Spanish energy giant Repsol has begun off the coast of the Canary Islands, prospecting for oil, despite protests by the local government, residents and environmentalists.   The government of the Canary Islands, like its counterpart in Catalonia, sought to subject the issue to public referendum, but Madrid's objections halted the move.  Animal rights activists again tried to prevent an annual spectacle defended by villagers in Soria as tradition and culture.  Police arrested four activists and removed another fifty.  And Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin returned to Madrid to give a recital featuring a program of Beethoven,  Prokoviev, and Chopin.
